Vuba Stone requires installation by certified professionals.

Does this install over concrete?

Yes, Rubber Stone and Vuba stone (resin-bound stone) can be installed over existing concrete when the slab is structurally sound. This is a common alternative to concrete replacement, and it works well for upgrading a concrete driveway, patio, walkway, steps, or pool deck.

Is this considered concrete surfacing?

Yes. We provide concrete surfacing. Many customers search for concrete resurfacing, concrete overlay, or concrete coating. This isn't to be confused with a surfacing of thin concrete over existing concrete, which some concrete contractors provide. It doesn't really last long, especially in areas where temperature changes are extreme from summer to winter. Our options go on the existing concrete but last for decades.

What surfaces can you cover?

We do a lot of resurfacing jobs over:

Concrete driveways

Concrete patios

Concrete sidewalks/walkways

Concrete porches and steps

Concrete pool decks

We also cover existing stone surfaces, brick surfaces, paver surfaces, and asphalt.
If you are unsure about your surface, just get in touch.

What is best for a pool deck?

We recommend Rubber Stone for pool deck coating. Rubber Stone gives a more cushioned surface, it is better around for areas with standing water, and it stays cooler in the summer time. Another great feature is that Rubber Stone is not affected by salt water or chlorinated pools. It will stand up against any pool chemicals.

How long does installation take?

The installation time for Rubber Stone and Vuba Stone varies depending on several factors, but most residential projects can be completed within 1-3 days for typical applications like driveways, patios, or pool decks.

Key Factors Affecting Installation Time:

Project Size & Complexity

- Small residential projects (patios, walkways): 1-2 days

- Medium projects (driveways, pool decks): 2-3 days

- Large commercial projects: 3+ days

Surface Preparation

- Proper surface preparation is crucial and can take 4-8 hours

- This includes cleaning, repairing cracks, and ensuring proper drainage

Weather Conditions

- Installation requires dry conditions with temperatures above 50°F

- Rain or extreme temperatures can delay the process

Curing Time

- Vuba Stone requires 24-48 hours before walking on the surface

- Full vehicle traffic can resume after 48-72 hours

- These times are temperature-dependent, and your installer will provide specific guidance

John's Surfacing Solutions Process:

At John's Surface Solutions, we follow a streamlined process to ensure efficient installation:

Day 1: Site preparation, surface cleaning, and base layer application

Day 2: Main installation of rubber stone or vuba stone surfacing

Day 3: Final touches, quality inspection, and curing begins

Will this type of surfacing work with cracked/uneven driveways?

Yes! Both Rubber Stone and Vuba Stone are specifically designed to work on cracked and uneven surfaces, making them ideal solutions for Asheville homeowners dealing with driveway damage. Any surface that has minor to moderate damage can usually be covered with none to little prep work. For larger issues, the damage will need to be taken care of first before coating.

Perfect for Damaged Driveways

Both Rubber Stone and Vuba Stone are "quick and simple resurfacing alternatives that can be applied over existing damaged surfaces.

These concrete coating systems are engineered to:

- Cover existing cracks and imperfections without requiring complete driveway replacement

- Create a smooth, level surface over uneven concrete or asphalt

- Provide a durable, long-lasting finish that withstands Western North Carolina's climate

How They Handle Cracked Surfaces

Rubber Stone is particularly effective because its flexible nature allows it to move with temperature changes and ground shifts common in the Asheville area.

Vuba Stone creates a strong bond that bridges over cracks and creates a seamless surface. With Vuba you don't have to worry about cracking and shifting either.

What is the surface maintenance like?

Maintenance is simple.

You can sweep/blow any debris every week or so to prevent buildup. We recommend a pressure washing at least once a year, but twice a year is best. You can use a light pressure washer from any store like Lowes or Home Depot.

If you spill oil or a chemical on it, make sure you rinse it quickly. Don't let it sit on the surface.

Every 5 years, a re-roll of the sealer needs to be applied. We can do this or you can do it yourself if you are comfortable with doing it.
